Happy 60th birthday to Clive Barker!
I saw him speak at World Horror Con years ago in Eugene, Oregon. One of the funniest speakers I've ever listened to, which surprised me. Anyway, most people probably know him because of Hellraiser, but he's done so many other dark things.

October 2, 1987 - Near Dark - Movie - Released
I need to re-watch this to see if it's held up. At the time, I thought it was the scariest, darkest, most depressing vampire movie I'd seen. Which is a good thing.

September 23, 2005 - Corpse Bride - Movie - Released
I was terribly disappointed by this movie (and surprisingly haven't watched it since I bought it on Blu-Ray ages ago) but it still belongs in the goth movie canon. Not just by virtue of being a Tim Burton movie, but it definitely has the mood, look and feel that it should. I just found it quite boring.. and the music didn't stick in my head for days afterwards like the Nightmare Before Christmas music did.

Not quite a horror movie, this dark film about serial killers is one of my favorite movies ever. Some scenes are too gross even for me. Kevin Spacey's performance was awesome, too.

I had such high hopes for Igor, with my favorite actor ( John Cusack) doing the main voice. Soooo disappointing. Meanwhile, Underworld was pretty enjoyable, though I could do without the many sequels. I remember how amazing the Underworld trailer was - beautiful and really made me excited to see the film.

My parents weren't interested in watching The Addams Family when it came out, because it "looked too weird" and "was probably Satanic." (See what I had to grow up with? Sigh).
The Haunting, based on a Shirley Jackson novel, has since been remade several times.
Meanwhile, Hellraiser was probably the scariest, grossest movie I had ever seen in the theater at the time. (Yes, I'm that ancient an eldergoth, I saw this in theaters).
