Nightmare Before Christmas Blu-Ray, on Amazon

October 29, 1993 - The Nightmare Before Christmas - Movie - Released

October 29, 1999 - The House on Haunted Hill (Remake) - Movie - Released

Where would goths be without Winona? We worshipped her in Heathers, idolized her as Lydia Deets in Beetlejuice, tolerated her as a blonde in Edward Scissorhands, marveled at her wardrobe in Dracula and dutifully went to see Lost Souls in the theater.

Has any movie delighted goths (in general) more than The Nightmare Before Christmas? It seems to have been made just for us.

October 18, 2002 - The Ring - Movie - Released

You probably enjoyed the film based on the H.P. Lovecraft work; and I was surprised to find The Ring was actually pretty frightening.

October 16 in Goth and Horror History

October 16, 1998 - Practical Magic, Movie, Released

While not a goth movie per se, and certainly not a horror movie, many goths enjoy this witchy film. Maybe a lot of the enjoyment stems from drooling over the beautiful kitchen and indoor greenhouse full of beautiful dark plants!

October 5 in Goth and Horror History

October 5, 1952 - Clive Barker - Writer - Born

I saw him speak at World Horror Con years back in Eugene, Oregon. One of the funniest speakers I've ever listened to, which surprised me. Anyway, most people probably know him because of Hellraiser, but he's done so many other dark things.

October 3 in Goth and Horror History

October 3, 2004 - Janet Leigh - Actress (Psycho) - Died

I feel bad referring to her as a "horror actress" because she played so many varied roles throughout her career - rarely in horror films. But the influence of Psycho on the genre can't be understated.

October 2 in Goth and Horror History

October 2, 1987 - Near Dark - Movie - Released

I need to rewatch this to see if it's held up. At the time, I thought it was the scariest, darkest, most depressing vampire movie I'd seen. Which is a good thing.
